Parian statue of Sir Walter Scott after John Steell, c1880
This parian sculpture is based on the original monument to the Edinburgh-born writer and lawyer Walter Scott, which features large representation of Scott, seated, with his dog Maida curled at his feet.
The monument was designed by George Meikle Kemp, and created by John Steell in 1845.
A replica of the original was also donated by Scottish-Americans in 1871 to the U.S., and resides in Central Park.
