Hand-colored engraved plate accompanied by the descriptive text leaf, from the 1754 edition of Catesby's "The Natural History of Carolina, Florida, and the Bahama Islands." ************* Plate from what Hunt described as the "most famous colorplate book of American plant and animal life ... a fundamental and original work for the study of American species." Mark Catesby was the first American naturalist and illustrator. –

Foxing or similar soiling, mild toning, small remnants of mounting tape to margins (as mounted and matted in folder), faint library ink-stamp near margin. Good. Refer to photos, sold as-is.
