DESCRIPTION: Thomas Jefferson Craddock folk art cane. Finished wood with carvings of animals, leaves, and the University of Virginia Rotunda. Text carved into stick (from top to bottom) "University VA Rotunda Burnt Sunday Oct 27. 1895", "Thomas Jefferson Of VA Born At Shadwell VA Apr 2 1743 Was President USA 1801 To 1809", "Wrote Declaration Of Independence 1776 Founder Of University VA 1819", "Died July 4 1891 This Cane Was Cut Near Jeffersons Tomb Monticello VA", "Jefferson Dying Words I Resign My Spirit To God My Daughter To My Country". Also carved into wood near top "V. Kohler". MEASUREMENTS: 36-1/4" long x 1-1/4" diameter at top. CONDITION: Small cracks to top. Wear to metal tip.
