Description
British Ashantee Medal (1873-1874) with "COOMASSIE" bar and engraved named on rim "2180 Pte. A. G. WILLIAMS. 2. BN. RIFLE BDE. 1873-4." The medal was awarded to British, Colonial and allied native forces who were deployed against the army of the Ashanti King Kofi Karikari, during the Ashantee War which lasted from June 1873 to February 1874. The "COOMASSIE" bar was awarded to those present at the Battle of Amoaful and the capture of Coomassie and those protecting the lines of communication north of the Prah river. Ribbon exhibits wear.
