1884-1885 Worlds Industrial and Cotton Centennial Exposition Award Medal, New Orleans (Bronze, 236.5 grams, 73 mm). Here is a thick, near hockey puck-sized medal from the post-Civil War South. The design is by noted American silversmith Peter Louis Krider of Philadelphia and contains two small shields on the reverse that include the legends "UNION CONFIDENCE AND JUSTICE" and "ALLIES NOT ENEMIES", the latter seemingly referring to Northern grain and Southern cotton. A scarce medal with the current example grading AU with some light rim marks here and there. Est. $100.
