Description
Made for the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia. A bronze award medal, the obverse depicting Columbia with a wreath in her outstretched hand, surrounded by personifications of the other continents, the reverse depicting a wreath and text reading "International Exhibition, Philadelphia, MDCCCLXXVI, Awarded by United States Centennial Commission". A gilt copper official Congressional medal, the obverse depicting Liberty distributing wreaths to Industry and Art, with text, the reverse depicting Liberty with left arm stretched upwards, a sword in her right hand and stars above, with text from the Declaration of Independence. Both cases include cases.
Dimensions: The bronze is 3" in diameter, the other is 2 1/4" in diameter, the cases are 3 3/4" x 3 3/4" and 4 1/2" x 6 1/2".
