Description
An original copy of The Romance of Submarine Engineering by Thomas Corbin. An antiquarian diving book published in 1913 in Philadelphia. A very collectible book that features photos of Siebe Gorman equipment, but more unusual, one of two named divers in what looks like brand new Heinke Pearler helmets. The inside back cover has two Heinke items pasted to it. Chapters titled The Diver and his Dress, The Evolution of the Divers Dress, Salvage, The Diver at Work, plus numerous Submarine chapters. Gold embossed cover and spine, showing a Heinke Pearler helmet on the cover, and the Siebe Gorman shallow-water/submarine escape helmet on the spine. 316 pages with b&w photos and diagrams. The book content is shown in the photos and the book content is in good condition. After surviving over a hundred years there is the expected wear, some loss at the top and bottom of the spine, and the spine cover is becoming detached from the front and back cover and can be seen in the photos but could be repaired. Not an ex-library book and no inscriptions or previous owners details. Comes with a protective book cover. An uncommon book dealing with diving and submarine advances of the period.
