Pre-Columbian North Coast Chimu/Inca Woven Textile Cocoa Bag. Beautifully decorated on both sides with a stylized standing anthropomorphic / zoomorphic figure (possibly a transformative shaman) holding ritualistic implements, wearing a checkerboard patterned garment and headdress, above a register of birds - all in hues of gold, black, white, blue, wine, green, and beige against a red ground. The strap is also decorated with birds, and lovely long tassels further adorn the lower corners of the bag. Provenance: Artemis Gallery, Louisville, Co, Lot 109D, July 12, 2017; ex private Ventura County, CA Collection. Size: Bag: 8'' x 8'', (20 x 20 cm); Strap Length: 36" (91 cm).
