Description
Eastern Mediterranean, Islamic, ca. 9th to 12th century CE. An attractive polychrome pottery vessel of a globular form with a near-spherical body, a long tubular neck that dramatically flares at the rim, and a loop handle joining neck to shoulder. The surface is beautifully embellished with three "thumb print crescents and black painted swirls, pinwheels, zigzags, and cross-hatched motifs against the red and white ground. Truly a feast for the eyes! Size: 5.25" W x 6.375" H (13.3 cm x 16.2 cm)
Provenance: private Vero Beach, Florida, USA collection; acquired from Middle East in the early 1970s

Condition
Several stable hairline fissures on body, with heavy abrasions and fading to pigment, chipping to exterior surfaces of body and beck, and encrustations across many surfaces. Nice remains of pigment throughout.
