Description
Animation Art - 5 Production Drawings with 1 Production Cel, Fantastic
A group of five animation sketches and one cell, drawn by unknown animation house artists. All of the original production sketches are done in graphite and colored pencil on untrimmed 12.5 x 10.5 animation paper. Featuring two drawings of Mickey Mouse with a hammer, Homer Simpson (marked 8F), and an unknown character (marked Sc. 4/25). There is also a sketch of a Smurf, with its corresponding production cel, both marked "012841 130". The sketch has numerous additional notations, including "G6" and "new hat". Character images range in size, and all are unattributed. With minor creasing at the corners and a few faint spots of soiling in places. Overall very fine.
A "cel" is a transparent sheet of celluloid or similar film material, which can be drawn on and used in the production of cartoons. Each cell features one drawing on one side of the plastic, with the color filled in on the other. These can then be placed over a background and photographed in sequence to create the illusion of movement. In a time when digital animation has become the norm, this traditional type of animation has become far more rare.
