Emile Albert Gruppe (1896-1978) was an American painter, known for impressionistic landscapes and Massachusetts coastal and marine paintings. His permanent studio was in Gloucester, MA where he was a member of the Cape Ann school of artists. He ran the Gloucester School of Painting at Rocky Neck, on Smith Cove in Gloucester, Massachusetts from 1940-1970. Today, Gruppe is among one of the most prominent Rockport artists and this group of artists have steadily exceeded and risen in value at auction.
