Description
A fine association period wood model of a Consolidated Aircraft B-24 with stand, once owned by a veteran of the Fling Tigers. The model has a 21 inch wingspan and is 13.5 in. long. It is supported by a chromed steel band above a finished wood base with the inlaid logo of Consolidated Aircraft. Beneath the logo appear a Dymo red labels indicating that the model once belonged to: SGT MELVIN COHEN 508 BG 375 SQN 14TH AAF FLYING TIGERS' The 14th Air Force was constituted on March 5, 1943 and activated in China five days later. It served in combat against the Japanese, operating primarily in China, until the end of the war. The 375th supported Chinese ground forces; attacked airfields, coal yards, docks, oil refineries and fuel dumps in French Indochina; mined rivers and ports; bombed maintenance shops and docks at Rangoon, Burma; attacked Japanese shipping in the East China Sea, Formosa Straits, South China Sea and Gulf of Tonkin. Fine condition.
