Description

A very fine and rare antique silk and metal thread Saltillo Sarape complete Blanket. This piece is woven in one panel - a rare and unusual aspect in a Saltillo weaving. This piece was handwoven in the late Maximilian Period. Finely woven with wool, silk and metal thread wefts on a cotton warp. This type of Saltillo weave from northern Mexico is among the worlds most intriguing textiles. An extremely fine weave and soft wool. Size: 2.05m x 1.03m (81ins x 41ins) A similar item is held in McCormick collection Plate 40 page 92. This piece was part of a Private UK Collection.
