Description
Studio per la porta della pace e della Guerra. 1965. Bronze bas-relief. Cm 33,00 x 58,00 x 9,00. First variant. Signature engraved upper left. Size without the base: 47x32 cm. Photocopy of the artist's authentication issued on 11 September 1989. Work archived at Studio Manzù, Ardea, as per Inge Manzù's declaration of 7 June 2005. Giacomo Manzù, starting from the 1950s, is committed to the creation of three large bronze portals: one for the Salzburg Cathedral in 1955, one for St. Peter's in Rome in 1964 and one for the church of St. Laurenz in Rotterdam in 968. For each door Manzù chooses an iconographic theme, which summarizes the inspiring motifs of his artistic research: love for Salzburg, death for St. Peter and peace and war for Rotterdam.
