ENGLISH STAFFORDSHIRE BATTERSEA / BILSTON ENAMEL SEWING BODKIN / NEEDLE CASE WITH THIMBLE CAP, three-part construction cylinder-form case with white ground having raised dots, each section featuring a cartouche hand-painted with a polychrome-enamel pastoral scene depicting figures and/or sheep, and inscribed "Sincere en amitie" within a scroll-work frame, slip-on cover and screw-on thimble cap, gilt-brass rims and beaded edge. Retains collection number sticker and detailed collection card. Fourth quarter 18th century. 5 3/8" L.
Provenance: The Mildred Jarvis Collection, Kennesaw, GA.
Purchased from John Jaffa Antiques, Ltd., London, England, 1/26/1991.

Condition

Fine overall condition having only a few hairlines and one minor flake to lower part of the case, minor wear to gilding, and minor high-point wear to dots.
