This exquisite silk and wool antique French romantic tapestry, from around the turn of the 20th century shows a high level of realism and artistic development. The romantic subject matter consists of two young lovers enjoy a sunny afternoon surrounded by frolicking animals and abundant plant life. This is a beautiful scenic pictorial masterwork and shows the talent of the French tapestry works of the time.

Of particular interest in this antique French romantic tapestry is its use of scale and vanishing point to create a realistic sense of depth in the landscape. This is a multi layered wall hanging tapestry that pays particular attention to the background, mid-ground, and foreground. The main subject matter is the lovers, but they are not in the closest level to the viewer. The artistic scene is created in a way that give the impression that you are looking through the trees and watching them from a distance. In this way, the artist brought the viewer into the piece and made them part of this intimate and tender moment between the two young lovers. We as the viewers are not just passive observers.
