Vol. II. 368, iii, (i), 371-587, (i), iv, 589-704, iii pp. Revolutionary War soldier, Quarter-master General, and the first Marshal of Pennsylvania, Clement Biddle's copy, with his signature on front paste-down, head of title-page, p. 85: "Clement Biddle Marshal", and his marginal notes and underlining, mainly toward rear. Contemporary three-quarter brown calf over marbled paper-covered boards, rebacked, red morocco spine label, stamped in gilt, boards worn and rubbed; all edges trimmed; ownership signature of James Tate Esq., surgeon of the 3rd Pennsylvania Regiment, at head of p. 9, open tears to same; open tear, pp. 663/664; scattered light to moderate foxing. Clement Biddle's personal copy of Pennsylvania session laws, from the first sitting of the sixth session, in 1781 through the third sitting of the ninth session, in 1785.
James Tate was a surgeon in the 3rd Pennsylvania Regiment and was present alongside Clement Biddle in the Battles of Brandywine, Germantown, and Monmouth. At the time Biddle served as George Washington's Commissary General, a position he held from 1777-80.
