Description
Southeast Asia, Thailand, Sawankhalok or Sukhothai, ca. 15th century CE. A delightful pair of pottery jars, each presenting a wide shoulder that tapers to a cylindrical neck and a flared rim, all sitting upon a planar base. The top three-quarters of both vessels is enveloped in a pale-colored slip. A series of 4 petite, horizontal handles embellish the shoulder of the more petite vessel, all equidistantly spaced, while the larger displays 5 vertical handles with spirals at their bases. Size of larger: 5.1" Diameter x 7.2" H (13 cm x 18.3 cm)
Provenance: private Lumberton, Texas, USA collection, acquired before 2010

Condition
Larger has chip to rim and losses to bases of 3 handles. Possible repair and restoration to rims of both. Both have expected nicks and abrasions, commensurate with age. Otherwise, both are very nice with liberal remains of pigment.
