Description
Ancient Eastern Mediterranean, Phoenicia, ca. 2nd millennium BCE. An intriguing cast-bronze statuette depicting Anat, also known as Anath, Anant, Anit, or Antit - the Phoenician warrior goddess, as well as both the sister and lover of the great god Ba'al Hadad. She stands upon fused legs with a slender torso and broad shoulders, as she raises her right arm outwards - presumably to have previously held a club or battle axe - and her left arm before her as it originally grasped a shield. Almond-shaped eyes, a bulbous nose, sloping cheeks, and cupped ears define her minimalist visage beneath a conical helmet with a spherical finial. Size: 2" W x 4.3" H (5.1 cm x 10.9 cm); 5.3" H (13.5 cm) on included custom stand.
