Description
Highly unusual, threatening three-page letter written to the Provost Marshall of the United States on May 31st, 1865, by an unknown veteran of Gen. Sherman’s army. The author, who signs his name simply as “T,” is furious that he was detained without cause and accuses the Provost Marshall of being a Confederate sympathizer. "T" calls the Provost Marshall an "animal of the hog species…dressed in human clothing," and after complaining about his unfair arrest and 33-hour imprisonment, lets the Provost Marshall know that he had “better keep scarce of General Sherman’s army…if you do go there, you had better have your coffin with you.”
