Description
We are pleased to offer this rare 6th North Carolina State Troops (NCST) excavated belt plate, the only Confederate belt plate custom-made for one regiment during the war. Likely commissioned and paid for by the unit’s commander, Colonel Charles Fisher, these cast plates were manufactured in a railroad workshop near Burlington, North Carolina.
Only a small handful of 6th NCST belt plates are believed to have survived, this is just one of a few times an example has been made available at auction. The plate originates from the estate of Barry Jett, who was a charter member of the Central Virginia Relics Hunters Association. This lot is accompanied by a letter of provenance and authenticity,
The 6th North Carolina Infantry was a hard-fought unit heavily engaged in the Eastern Theatre of the war. The regiment is well-known for briefly taking control of Culp’s Hill during the Battle of Gettysburg (though they lost a large portion of their men in the process).
The belt plate has a uniform emerald patina. As is almost always the case with dug examples, the soldered hooks are missing. It is said that most failed in the field.
Rare opportunity to acquire an original 6th NCST belt plate. As with all of our items, authenticity is guaranteed.
