Item Details

Description

Officer's commission signed by President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt issued to (then) Lieutenant John P. Terrell in 1907. Roosevelt's signature is strong, the document is in nearly pristine condition.

Terrell would later be awarded the Army Distinguished Service Medal for actions during the First World War. His citation states: "The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Army Distinguished Service Medal to Colonel John Preston Terrell, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious and distinguished services to the Government of the United States, in a duty of great responsibility during World War I."
