Description
4th-6th century A.D. A pair of fly brooches with ribbing at the necks and delineation of the wings; each with pin and catchplate to the reverse. See Strokov, A.A., ‘Two-chamber vaults of the Cimmerian Bosporus in the Migration Period’ in Rácz, Z., Szenthe, G., Attila’s Europe, structural transformation and strategies of success in the European Hun Period, Budapest, 2021, fig.9, no.9. 19.5 grams total, 38-48 mm (1 1/2 - 1 7/8 in.) German art market before 2000. With a European gentleman living in the UK. Property of a Surrey gentleman. These fibulae are typical of the Late Roman imports found in the Hun graves of the Migration period in the territory of the Cimmerian Bosphorus. Similar specimens were found in collective tombs of Bosphorean people, mainly related to female occupants. [2]
