Pre-Columbian, Peru, Inca Empire, ca. 1200 to 1532 CE. A lovely and large coca bag known as a "tari," comprised of tightly-woven camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers in hues of cream, espresso, coffee, crimson, sapphire-blue, and olive-green. The rectangular composition has two primary panels of either brown or faded white colors flanked with red-and-blue-and-green striped bars. The exterior peripheries are reinforced with dark-brown thread, and a frilled tassel projects from each corner. Mounted on a black fabric display panel. Size (textile w/o tassels): 18.25" W x 18" H (46.4 cm x 45.7 cm); size (display panel): 31.5" W x 40.25" H (80 cm x 102.2 cm).
