Description
The Confederation "Cigar of the Nation" was manufactured from Cuban "Habana" tobacco by the H.E. Cooke company in Owen Sound to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Canada's Confederation (1867-1927). The label inside the cigar box features an image of Robert Harris's classic 1884 painting depicting the Fathers of Confederation. From the Alan Emerson Collection. The lid of the box is slightly bowed and the base, in areas, has started to separate from the side panels. Some material losses exist around the perimeter of the box and a portion of the tax stamp is missing. Uniform soiling and/or staining are evident over much of the exterior surface. H.E. Cooke & Co. Marked: "Mfd. Only by H.E. Cooke & Co. Cigar Manufacturers Owen Sound Ontario" inside the lid. Wood & paper. Canadian. 1927. 1.5" H x 8.25" W x 5.5" D. CODE-TOB
