Description
A military document for John A. Fryer, commissioned as Captain in the 43th NY Infantry Regiment, signed in pen and ink by Governor Dewitt Clinton April 3, 1822 and countersigned by JVN Yates (Secretary) - some foxing, fold marks, but overall good condition - has not been examined out of frame ; together with a CDV photo of a soldier with sergeant stripes and kepi on table with horn insignia, probably NY State Infantry - both coming from the same Connecticut estate so the latter likely the son. Similar image found online of Major John Fryer (abt. 1840-1864), who was mustered in at Albany NY in 1861 with rank of 1st Sergeant (as appears in CDV) - he rose to the rank of Major and was mortally wounded at the Battle Of The Wilderness, Va., 1864 - the CDV is applied to cardboard so the back is not visible, otherwise good condition.
