Description
An etched, partially gilt southern German burgonet for a boy, circa 1580
The skull forged in one piece, with a pronounced, roped comb. A decorative band inset on each side. The peak made in one piece with a finely turned and roped edge, stamped with an unknown mark. Riveted collar plate, a border of original lining rivets. The attached cheek pieces opening on a hinge, each with seven pierced openings for hearing. Finely etched ornamental bands with delicate decorative tendrils, remnants of gilding at the edges. Slightly dented in places, two tears on the left-hand side. Height 25.5 cm.
