Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 800 to 1200 CE. This is a beautiful and well displayed collection of 3 unrelated textile fragments of camelid (alpaca or llama) wool, displayed together to make a figural composition. The upper maroon and warm red piece have geometric T-form motifs woven in white and yellow. The largest fragment in the center has an abstract avian figure in brown and blue hues atop a cream ground. The final piece is a dark brown with a dark blue and turquoise hues of linear and zoomorphic motifs - a stylized cat creature in the lower corner that runs off the edge. When displayed vertically the purposeful arrangement of the pieces in the frame look like a highly stylized pre-Columbian figure - the maroon fragment his headdress, the beige and brown piece his head and large ears, the lower brown textile his body and arms.
