Description
late 19th century, 238 x 130 cm, South West Persia, Fars
BLACK, DAVID & LOVELESS, CLIVE, Woven Gardens. Nomad and Village Rugs of the Fars Province of Southern Persia. London 1979, no. 7
RIPPON BOSWELL, A 92, 25 November 2017, lot 94
A large Qashqa’i rug of outstanding quality in brilliant colours, very finely woven and thus precise in drawing. The shield-shaped azure field and the brown spandrels are densely covered in a Herati repeat. The central axis of the composition is accentuated by three large diamond-shaped medallions enclosing the characteristic “Qashqa’i gül“. Judging by the knotting structure and the style of drawing, this is a weaving by the Shishboluki tribe. – Very good condition, original finishes all around.
