Description
Two Chinese Porcelain Month Cups. The first cup is thinly potted with deep rounded sides rising towards a gently flared rim. The exterior is delicately enameled with narcissus and a single long-stemmed rose emerging from a garden rock. The reverse is inscribed with a poetic couplet terminating with a seal mark, Shang, 'appreciation.' The Second cup is decorated to the exterior with peony blossoms growing beside a rocky bed and a small butterfly flying amongst them. The reverse bears an inscription in underglaze blue, followed by the seal mark Shang, meaning appreciation. The bottom incised with a six-character Kangxi mark in a double circle. {Height 2 inches (5 cm)}. Provenance: From Madame Kwei of Marin County, SF estate properties originally acquired from Shanghai China in early 20th Century.
