Two American 19th Century Gilt Bronze Mantle Clamp Type Fire Screen Brackets

Item Details

Description

We have never encountered such a form before. Each made of gilt bronze and designed to clamp to the edge of a mantle to suspend a tapestry as a fire screen. They measure approx. 24" wide and the depth varies from 3" when closed flat to as deep as 20" when fully extended. Unmarked though certainly American and possibly the work of Hooper. CONDITION: Excellent and undamaged. Clamps function well. All knuckle joints operate smoothly.
