18th Century Coin Silver Rat-Tail Spoon, mark of Adrian Bancker
New York City, active 1725-1772, with period monogram to handle.
7 3/4 in.
1.85 total troy oz.
Per consignor, the spoon descended in the family and is part of the estate of the first New York Chancellor, Robert Livingston (1736-1814). Livingston was one of the Committee of Five, responsible for the task of drafting the Constitution. Livingston administered the presidential oath of office to George Washington at his first inauguration on April 30, 1789. He was also appointed the U.S. minister to France (1801 to 1804), and negotiated the Louisiana Purchase.
