Description
For your consideration are (2) mid-19th Century American coin silver spoons with 'pseudo-marks' typical of the period. Additionally, the spoons are each partially marked "D.G. Leonard". D. Gillis Leonard was a silversmith in Newburgh, New York from 1841-1847. The heads of the spoons are period inscribed with the monogram "MC" and the reverse of the neck is marked with a (3) cartouche mark - an eagle with spread wings, an arm with hammer and a bust in profile (facing left) and athe maker's name. Each spoon measures 5 3/4" in length and the pair weigh 7/10 of an ounce.
Provenance: From the private collection of an antiques dealer in Kerrville, Texas.
