Description
A late 17th century Snaphaunce type flintlock youth rifle, presentation stock elaborately decorated with inlaid mother of pearl and ivory inlay, only 31" overall length, likely English made, this type of rifle would have been gifted to young royalty in East India and the Far East, inscribed on lockplate 'GMASPER', housed in shadow-box style frame, as framed 38.5 x 12.5 Provenance: gift to RR Webber in 1987, from his uncle Captain CM Bell, of MI, Capt. Bell reportedly obtained the piece as 'loot' from the Nymphenburg Castle in Munich, Germany, while serving in the Fifth Army, in 1945
