A Derby coffee can and saucer by William 'Quaker' Pegg, circa 1796
With an ear-shaped handle, painted in the round with garden flowers and foliage strikingly set against a black ground, the saucer gilded with a band of interlocking navette-shaped panels containing stars and dots, can 6.7cm high, crown, crossed batons and D marks in puce (2)

The attribution to Pegg is based on the similarity of the flower painting to that found on pattern 475, allocated to Pegg in the pattern books. See Anthony Hoyte and Peter Jackson, The Charles Norman Collection (2012), p.56 for a cabaret service of pattern 475.
