Juan Perón Signed Sumptuous Official Portrait Dating from 1st Presidential Term

A presentation photo of Argentinian President Juan Perón (1895-1974), boldly signed by him as "Juan Perón" on the mat at lower right underneath a printed dedicatory message as: "Al Señor Eddie Sousa / - con gran afecto - / Buenos Aires, 3.11.49" ["To Mr. Eddie Sousa / - with much affection - / Buenos Aires, 11.3.49"]. The silver gelatin photograph is Peron's official portrait, showing him in a tuxedo wearing a presidential sash. The photograph is embossed "Subsecretaria de Informaciones / Archivo Grafico De La Nacion" at lower right. It is displayed within a series of floating mounts and mats, framed behind glass. The photograph shows some minor silvering along the bottom edge, and a few superficial marks, else near fine. A few gentle wrinkles present on the photograph mat, and some isolated debris on the glass surface which could be removable. Not examined out of the frame. The actual size of the photograph is 8.875" x 10.875" while the overall size of the frame is 16.25" x 19.25" x .625."

In 1949, Juan Perón was just a few years into his first presidential term (June 1946 - September 1955). An extremely influential political leader who attempted to secure Argentinian sovereignty during the Cold War, Perón would be reelected in the early 1970s. His second wife was the actress Evita Perón.

Juan Perón autographed this portrait photograph for an American autograph collector named Eddie Sousa. Eddie Sousa has been identified elsewhere (through an autographed collections item at the University of Tennessee Libraries at Knoxville) as a tuberculosis patient at the Arroyo Del Valle Sanitarium in Livermore, California. From about 1949 to 1959, Sousa requested autographs from heads of state like Perón, military commanders like French General Pierre Fay; and Spanish physician Severo Ochoa.

This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.
