Description
A JAVANESE BRONZE GHANTA BELL
Java, Indonesia, 10th - 12th century. The bell with foliate designs, the handle cast with concentric ridges and crowned with two stylized Nagas. The clapper cast separately and attached to a loop inside the bell. Naturally grown patina.
Condition: Good overall condition as expected and fully commensurate with age. Old wear, losses, small dents, minor nicks, extensive signs of weathering and erosion.
Provenance: French private collection, acquired at Nigel Ward & Co, England, 6 June 2015, lot 1310.
