This attractive bird's eye view was issued to promote the land holdings of the Staunton Development Company. Keyed to the map are over 50 locations listed at bottom including churches, schools, hotels and factories. Below the view are small vignettes of important locations including the Virginia Female Institute, Staunton Military Academy, and John Kroders Brass Goods and Curtain Pole Factories. Above the view is a fine rendering of the planned Hotel Altemont. The grand hotel was planned on the grounds of the Staunton Development Company, but it was never built. A small inset at right shows Staunton's railway connections.
