Ancient Greece, Cyprus, Cypro-Archaic I, ca. 750 to 600 BCE. A wheel-thrown terracotta jug of sizable form with a squat foot, an ovoid body with a bulging midsection, a squat neck topped with a trefoil-form spout, and a bifurcated handle arching off the back of the spout rim. Decorated with applied black pigment, the exterior is embellished with 2 broad parallel bands on the lower body, a wide band containing several fineline stripes along the midsection, solid bands on the spout rim and handle, and a register of concentric circles surrounding the shoulder. Restoration to area of body along midsection, with resurfacing along new material. Loss to front of trefoil spout as shown. Nicks, chips, and spalls across exterior surfaces, with abrasions and fading to pigment commensurate with age, and light encrustations. Decorative motifs are faint but still relatively visible.
