Native American, Southwestern United States, Arizona, Anasazi (Ancestral Puebloan), ca. 950 to 1200 CE. A relatively tall example of a hemispherical bowl formed via the traditional Puebloan coil-and-scrape technique. The gray-white base color of the basin is expertly decorated with black pigment to form pairs of stacked, openwork triangles - either flat side down or point down - with petite spots lining the outer edges to form broad lightning bolts within the middles; one pair is comprised of solid black triangles. Sets of parallel vertical stripes separate each lightning bolt, and a spot-lined band encircles the edge of the basin center. Reserve black-on-white is from the southern border of the Anasazi and the northern border of the Mogollon, representing a connection between the 2 cultures.
