Description
A George I Britannia standard silver and mother of pearl snuff box, London 1715 by Thomas Head I (reg. 17th Jan 1716)
Of rectangular form with moulded edges, the lid set with a mother of pearl panel (cracked) engraved with a scene of traveller approaching a toll man, before a harbour building with a tree and boat in the foreground, edged with a chased rope work border. Gilt interior. Fully marked to the interior, the outside of base edge with lion’s head erased mark only.
Length – 7.2 cm / 2.75 inches
Grimwade 987 – apprenticed to Robert Bullock 13th June 1699, free 14th February 1708, Address Cheapside.
