A mid - 18th century Portuguese silver salver, Porto circa 1760 by João Coelho Sampaio (1719–84, active from 1742)
Don José I. Of shaped circular form with a shaped cavetto edge with rocialle rim, raised upon three pad feet. The field with flat chased rocialle decoration to the edge. Later engraved underneath “Lorna Mary 21st April 1975”. Marked with town mark (Vidal 66), makers mark CIS and assay scrape.

João Coelho de Sampaio was born in Ruilhe, Braga, in 1719, and was master by examination in 1742. In 1768, master Coelho de Sampaio became the silver assayer of the city and district of Porto. He produced for the Venerable Third Order of S. Francisco, the Brotherhood of Poor Clerics and the Brotherhood of the Blessed Sacrament of Santo Ildefonso.
