Description
A mid-20th century Iranian (Persian) silver revolving fruit bowl, Isfahan circa 1940 mark of Bireae Pahlavi dynasty, the form in the French empire revival form, with square base with re-entrant corners leading to an ovolo edge and panelled mid-section, the revolving ‘lazy Susan’ bowl of dished form with shaped rim section. All raised on four cast and applied chased scroll bracket feet. The base with deep chased monabbat-kari decoration of arabesque cartouches with peonies and flower sprays heightened with engraved ghalam zani decoration. The bowl section with applied chased double shell and foliate scroll section as well as flower head foliate scroll section to the corded rim. The underside with engraved ghalam zani peony cartouches reserved with strapwork and basket weave, the applied section framed with saz leaves, all below a trailing rosette border. Marked tom interior of bowl with town mark, standard mark (۸۴), and workshop mark بیریائی. Height – 18.6 cm / 7.3 inches Weight – 882 grams / 28.32 ozt Gifted at a wedding in Tehran 1940, thence by descent
