A George III sterling silver chamberstick, London 1802 by Samuel and George Whitford
Of circular form with a gadrooned edge, ring side handle with saddle thumbpiece with a detachable conical snuffer, the central capital with a removable circular sconce. Engraved to the well and snuffer with traces of a coat of arms within a woman’s lozenge and initials. Fully marked to capital, partial makers mark to snuffer and largely obliterated marks to the main body underside. Together with another William IV chamberstick, London 1832 by Robert Hennell II, of plain circular form with silver plated conical snuffer and a beaded edge sconce. The front engraved with a crest of a cubit arm holding a sword within the motto Suaviter sed fortiter. The underside engraved “Purchased with a legacy from my respected friend and ‘?’ William Fynmore Esqr August 1832” then the initials JC. (2)
