PIEDMONT NORTH CAROLINA FEDERAL WALNUT HUNTBOARD / SIDEBOARD, unusual canted form, long trapezoidal two-board top above a conforming case set with three short, lip-molded, dovetailed drawers above two hinged doors, the central one with a raised panel, flanked by a deep, open drawer to the right, possibly for sugar, each with inlaid elongated hexagon escutcheon, raised on square, slightly tapered legs, solid ends. Retains original oval bail brasses and drawer locks. Yellow pine secondary wood. Older refinished surface. Late 18th/early 19th century. 39 1/2" H, 67 1/4" W, 21" D.
Provenance: Recently discovered in a southeastern Virginia consignment shop.
Catalogue Note: The present lot came from the same estate as lot 2306. Its very unusual form necessitated the end drawer frames to be constructed with an angle to conform to the case opening. The top and back boards are joined with butterfly joints which are original.

Very good structural condition, center drawer with patch to upper right corner of face, center door with old replaced hinges in original seats, finish with losses on top and scratches, some evidence of insect damage to back, brasses with denting.
