An Egyptian polychrome wood figure of a jackal
Ptolemaic Period, circa 332-30 B.C.
Depicting the god Anubis, with long tail, pointed ears and elongated snout, wearing a red collar, recumbent on a miniature coffin with corner posts and a curved lid, 13.5cm high

This miniature coffin would have been fitted into the base of a Ptah-Sokar-Osiris figure facing the god. For a similar example with a hawk instead of a jackal see the example in the British Museum, accession no. EA 9736.
