A Persian bronze shield boss
Circa 8th-7th Century B.C.
Rising to a pointed dome at the centre, with pierced rim, 26.5cm diam.

Condition
There are tears and holes mostly to the border, visible in the catalogue image. The surface has been cleaned on the exterior, leaving an attractive reddish-brown patina with green mottling and with some patches of encrustation. There is some slight hairline cracking at the dome. The interior is heavily encrusted making it difficult to see if there are repairs to the dome. There is an adhesive plaster label reading: 'Sdt 256...Schile'...
