the clock 19cm high,
John Whitehurst set up his business in Derby in 1736 - the same year he installed a turret clock to the newly completed Guildhall. Upon his death, his nephew took over, who was joined by his son in 1809 when they were re-named 'Whitehurst & Son'. They traded under that nume until 1834, and so we know that this clock pre-dates 1834. The earlier hook and spike clock feature small brass dials as in the present example, these were later replaced with white enamelled dials.
