Description
This exceptional 1780's Philadelphia oil on canvas depicts a red headed young man in a green coat who appears to be amused by the onlookers. This portrait, done in the style of Charles Willson Peale, is unsigned and of the period. It has been relined and is in good condition. This important oil on canvas of a fancy gentleman is from Philadelphia and would make a great addition to any period home or collection. Although the identity of the portait's sitter is unkown, the sitter does share a likeness with the look of younger Peale and it could possibly be a self portait. Like all Peale's work, it does have that sense of movement and a feeling that the people in the portrait are inviting you to join them in another time period. It measures 32.5" tall X 28.5" across.
