Description
Ca. 100-200 AD A bronze plate brooch formed as a frog with its legs bent. The D-shaped head with inlaid dark glass eyes. The upper and lower body consist of triangular-shaped recessed panels which would have originally contained coloured enamel inserts. The pin and catchplate to the reverse. Cf. Hattatt, R. Brooches of Antiquity, Oxford, 1987. Size: L:32.7mm / W:19.7mm ; 7.1g Provenance: From the private collection of an Essex gentleman; previously in an old British Collection, formed in the 1990s.
